Inspired by Japanese textiles and the use of Indigo Shibori dyed textiles; Lottie created a series of woven fabrics to fit this style without the use of indigo. This was a very experimental project as Lottie was testing a number of different yarns and the way in which they can be woven in using a variety of peg plan structures. Lottie also chose to keep the raw edges of the fabric as these are pieces are work in progress and not finished products; due to specifically looking at traditional craft and traditional techniques.
The photographs below were taken at the Kimono Roboto Exhibition that Lottie visited in Nijo Castle, Kyoto, Japan.
Throughout these woven samples; Lottie used a number of different yarns ranging from metallic yarns to reflective yarns. As part of her research; Lottie looked at the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with Gold; called: 'Kintsugi' and wanted to incorporate this idea into her work by using specific yarns.
